So at the time when I was first recognized as a software tester, I really was a software tester. People could not label me as someone else. They cannot label me as programmer or system architect. They knew who they were meeting with and what that person can deliver.

But in my experience, we do the two one after another, where we smoke testing first, and then check for sanity as well. If smoke testing is passed but system shows some sanity (showstopper) errors then we have a “no go” for the application.
BTW I prefer to call this “System consistency testing” 🙂

Besides sessions and meetups, I think what really delivers result is a good testing workshop, do you think Academia or industry can work together to get things going in this direction?
